Apartment in Junqueira by ASPA

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Seeking to maintain intact the original decorative and constructional characteristics of the original structure built in 2006, portuguese practice ASPA Arquitectos have recently renewed and transformed the single level space of the ”Junqueira Apartment“ into a contrasting two level dwelling using the considerable ceiling height of 5.2 meters of the apartment.

The project, explain architects, should be analyzed and understood not as restoration, but as an extension, putting to good use the “empty” space of the building in relation to its original characteristics. The new second level expansion is an addition to the original space that creates a new dynamic relationship between private and public program, almost doubling the living space.
