Exterior Like Interiors: Cozy Urban Home in Sao Paolo

Saturday, March 16, 2013

We love the innovative, outdoor vibe of this unusual "inside out" house designed by Brazil's Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados. Maracana House located in Sao Paolo's urban jungle puts what are typically considered to be exterior elements indoors, like exposed brick walls and a balcony overhead. The main living area is a two-storey space featuring an open layout and enclosed in this light colored brick, overlooked by a curious loft area with a casual, industrial appeal. The upper tier and the staircase leading up to it are bordered in a chain-link fence that makes you feel like you're out in the yard. Completing the outside-in look and feel, an atrium borrows a corner of this main floor living area with trees and leafy foliage, for a fresh, outdoorsy appeal. The open back wall of the atrium lets the warm sunlight stream in. A floor-to-ceiling sliding glass wall opens to the city streets. A true alfresco living and lounging area is complete with a garden and a hammock for kicking back under an open sky.
